Our Space

New Khmer-Architecture is housed on the first floor of a 1920s Chinese shophouse in the former Chinese quarter of downtown Phnom Penh. Established in the 1920s by administrators of the French protectorate, this area was the center of the commercial and trade activities of the city’s Chinese communities. Today, the area retains more heritage architecture than most areas in Phnom Penh, with diverse street life and vibrant communities. Our 4 x 18m space offers 3 functions: working, exhibiting and reading.

Working

Our space acts as an “open studio” in which we and our collaborators carry out our activities. Students, researchers, architects, curators and professionals are invited to observe and work with us, and to engage in discussion with our team of architects and architecture students.
